This course is tailored for BEGINNERS of castanets, but ALL levels of flamenco.
You will learn the ESSENTIAL DRILLS & TECHNIQUES to develop clarity, control, and speed—so every click counts.
It includes 11 video lessons with 1 hour and a half of instruction, designed to help you build the strength, coordination, and technique to play castanets cleanly and confidently—just like learning flamenco footwork.

- 0 – Introduction: Get oriented and ready to start your castanet journey.
- 1 – Basics 12 Count: Learn Pi Ta, Pi Ta Pan, Pi Ta Pan Chin sequences.
- 2 – Basics 4 Count: Practice the 4-count versions of Pi Ta, Pi Ta Pan, Pi Ta Pan Chin.
- 3 – Drills for RIA: Build the strength and mobility needed for clean, rhythmic RIA patterns. These will set you up to be able to play for Sevillanas later.

Rina Orellana
Rina is a Madrid-trained professional flamenco dancer with over 25 years of experience. She also has had her own dance academy in Los Angeles, California for 20 years. There she trains many dancers from beginners looking for a fun community and workout all the way to training dancers to perform on their own in tablaos (flamenco venues.) She also has the Online Flamenco Studio, a thriving site with over 80 courses for dancers of all levels.
Rina has a special gift with breaking down the mysteries of flamenco into easy to understand elements. So, she thoroughly enjoys watching the progress her dancers have made whether it's finally "hearing the 12" for a beginner to a tablao dancer using one of her choreographies for her show.
